My 5 Important Political Issues

Listed below are five topics that I feel are things I am concerned about. They are listed in no particular order.

1. Immigration

As a child of first generation immigrants, I feel strongly against immigration laws and limits. While I understand that there is a concern about the rising population and general "They took our jobs," I would argue that immigration is key to the history of the country.

I understand that I may speak from bias, but hearing Donald Trump's speech on "building a wall" makes me cringe.

2. Education

I also believe that college could be cheaper. While the U.S. is doing great in providing free education up until high school, the college is so expensive.

According to NonProfitCollegesOnline.com, the tuition for the United States is more expensive than many other countries in the world. This is something that I feel can be resolved, or reduced.

3. Environment

While I'm probably not as big of a Green supporter, I do feel that the nature is something more valuable than profit. If companies wish to expand their businesses while taking down forests and creating pollution, then I'm defiantly against it. With the recent action of President Obama of rejecting the KeyStone XL project, I feel that the environment is becoming more popular than ever.

4. Drug Legalization

In truth, I'm not too concerned about drug use. However, studies have shown that legalization of drugs such as marijuana helps lower the crime rate. While I'm not happy with the image of everyone "blazing it" in public, lower crime rates is something that I can support.

According to DrugPolicy.org, Colorado's one-year report after the legalization of marijuana saw $40 million extra dollars in tax revenue and decrease of both violent crime and traffic fatalities.

5. Taxation

Lastly, I believe that the rich should be taxed more. I don't think that it is fair for the rich, who actually have excess money, to have lower tax rates than the poorer, who don't necessarily have the funds to pay their taxes.

The infographic to the right shows that as Americans go from rich to super-rich, their tax rates actually go down. I find this unfair to those in the lower or middle class.
